I came accross a great article in hindustantimes,HT Business India, which was about how India Inc can learn from the Rajnikant Persona:Create leaders who create followers.
It said that the resurgence of Charismatic leardership in the Rajnikant persona has surfaced the debate about management by Charisma.Rajnikant the South Indian Tamil Mega Star, who has also worked in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada films is the centre of the universe for his fans.He has made a great contribution to films with his extraordinary style. His movie “Sivaji” has created history and continues to make waves all over the world.
Leaders such as Donald Trump ,Dhirubhai Ambani John F Kennedy all used thier persona to influence, move and inspire their followers. The same applies to the “Rajnikant Effect”!
We need to create leaders who create followers, for restoring faith in the system.
Rajnikant is a great actor and has extraordinary style. He has a huge fan following. He presents himself with ease and the fans can relate to the real person behind the camera.Rajnikant was offered art films many times, but he declined them, though those roles would have given him the oppurtunity to break stereotypes. He wanted to focus on his core competencies. This approach has given him a strong identity and his fans and followers have consistently got what they wanted.
The artlce also said that Leadership is a double edged sword which can lead to blind fanaticism, hence here is where the ethics debate comes up.The charismatic leaders need to be aware of the effects of their actions on their followers.
