The multiplex cinema culture seems to be growing fast all across India. That is why single movie cinema halls are being converted into units with many screens.
Booming Multiplex Cinema
Film exhibition company PVR is going to invest Rs 400 crore for setting up 250 screens across India by the year 2010.Try and recall how PVR started the first multiplex cinema way back in 1997.
Multiplex cinema has many advantges:
1.Better movie experience
Multiplexes offer a better overall experience. The movie viewing is amazing because of the clear picture and the dolby digital sound effects. The seats are comfortable and the interiors are beautiful.
PVR recently launched PVR premiere, in Delhi, to target the elite consumers. This has 180 degree reclining seats, better legroom, personalized menu and much more. The ticket price can be as high as Rs. 750.PVR wants to open around 40 more PVR premieres by 2010.
2.More choice
Multiplex is better than a single movie hall because movie buffs have more options and they can watch the movie of their choice.Single movie halls usually offer only a mainstream commercial movie. What if some one wants to watch an off beat film?
3.Alternate cinema, different genres, small budget and experimental movies
Because of multiplexes, movie goers got a chance to watch different kinds of movies like Being Cyrus,Bheja fry,Page 3,Mixed doubles,Traffic Signal,Khosla ka Ghosla and so on. Thanks to the multiplexes that so many of such movies did fairly well.
So many big banner production houses are creating separate divisions to handle the small budget films. For example Mukta Searchlight Films has been set up by Mukta Arts.
4.New Talent
Because of multiplexes the small budget movies can be released and this gives new actors and directors a chance.
