Who are the richest people in the world ?

The Forbes’ list (2009) of the world’s billionaires is out now.

Bill Gates is the richest man in the world once again with a net worth of $ 40 Billion. In 2008 he was at the No.2 position with a net worth of $ 58 Billion.

We can recall that last year Warren Buffett had moved ahead of Bill Gates to occupy the No.1 position. It was after 13 years that Bill gates was not the world’s richest man. This year, Warren Buffett is at the No. 2 position with a net worth of $ 37 Billion. His wealth has come down by $ 25 Billion.

Carlos Slim Helu is the No. 3 postion with $ 35 Billion. His wealth fell by $ 25 Billion.

In 2008 there were 1,125 Billionaires, this year there are only 793  Billionaires. The net worth of the Billionaires is down by $ 2 Trillion from last year.

3. Carlos Slim Helu: $ 35 Billion

4. Lawrence Ellison: $22.5 Billion

5. Ingvar Kamprad: $ 22 Billion

6. Karl Albrecht: $ 21.5 Billion

7. Mukesh Ambani (Richest Man in India): $ 19.5 Billion

8. Lakshmi Mittal: $ 19.3 Billion

9. Theo Albrecht: $ 18.8 Billion

10. Amancio Ortega: $ 18.3 Billion

Top Indian Business Tycoons Lost Big Money because of the impact of the economic meltdown:

The Ambani Brothers:

Anil Ambani lost $ 31.9 Billion making him the biggest loser on the World’s Billionaire list. He was the 6th richest man in the world in 2008 with a net worth of $ 42 billion. This year he is down to the 34th position with a net worth of $ 10.1 Billion.

Mukesh Ambani’s wealth fell from $ 43 Billion to $ 19.5 Billion. He still made it to the top ten list.

Real Estate Tycoons:

KP Singh of DLF lost $ 25 Billion and is presently worth $ 5 Billion.

Ramesh Chandra of Unitech is no longer a billionaire. He lost around$ 9 Billion.

Sameer Gehlaut of Indiabulls :

Sameer Gehlaut who was the youngest self made billionaire of India, is now an ex-billionaire. He lost around $ 1 Billion.

Tulsi Tanti of Suzlon:

Tulsi Tanti dropped off the billionaire list with an estimated loss of $ 2.6 Billion

Liquor Tycoon Vijay Mallya:

Vijay Mallya dropped off the list with an estimated loss of $ 900 Million.
